Vice President, John Dramani Mahama has called on citizens of Bawku to use the occasion of this year’s Eid – Ul – Adha to reflex on whether they would like to continue in conflict or co-exist peacefully as brothers and sisters.
He said peace was needed for development and it behoved on them to choose between conflict with its attendant destruction of lives and properties or go for peace for development and riches.
Mr. Mahama made the call last Friday when he addressed the Muslims at a special Eid – Ul – Adha prayer session at the Independent Square in Accra.
The Vice Presidnet lamented the fact that due to the unending conflict in the Bawku area, health workers, teachers, doctors and other important service providers are all deserting the town, which used to be the business nerve centre of the North in particular and Ghana as a whole.
Mr. Mahama also reiterated the Chief Imam’s call for Muslims across the country to prioritize education and ensure that their wards do not only enrolled in schools but are retained and given quality education.
The Chief Iman, Sheikh (Dr.) Nuhu Sharubutu showered praises on the President, Prof. John Evans Attah Mills, the Vice President, John Dramani Mahama and the entire government for the successful and orderly organization of this year’s Hajj. He prayed for Allah’s guidance and protection for the leadership of the country.
The celebration of Eid – Ul – Adha is in commemoration of the command given by Allah to Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his first son Ishmael to Him. The fulfillment of this noble command of Allah by Abraham signifies the faith Abraham had in Allah.
Eid – Ul – Adha is celebrated on the 10th day of Dhul – Hijah, the last month of the Muslim year, following completion of the course of Hajj, an extremely devotional course.
