VEEP RECEIVES AFCON TROPHY AT THE CASTLE

Vice President, John Dramani Mahama on October 1, 2009, received the AFCON trophy at the Castle, Osu. It was presented to him by CAF officials and Stanbic officials, the sponsors of trophy African tour.

The trophy is on tour to African countries that have qualified to play in the 27th edition of the African Cup of Nation scheduled to take place in Angola next year.

Ghana is the first country the trophy is making its first stop from Egypt, the title holders of the trophy following their successful annexing of the trophy in Ghana in 2008.

Receiving the trophy from Ghana’s Football Ambassador Extraordinaire and the trophy tour ambassador, Abedi Ayew Pele, Vice President, Mahama commended Angola for accepting to host the 2010 prestigious African Cup of Nation.

He assured the continent to look out for Ghana because the players and technical team are in high spirit and devastating form that at the close of the tournament Ghana would be the ultimate winner.

Mr. Mahama used the occasion to congratulate South Africa for also accepting to host the rest of the world in the 2010 world cup. He said the action of South Africa to host the rest of the world makes Africa proud. He again assured the world Ghana would do everything possible to annex the cup for the first time.
The African cup of nations started in Sudan in 1957 and Ghana has won the prestigious title four (4) times in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982.
