Vice President fights for local contractors in the US

The Vice President, John Mahama has urged the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to consider local contractors in the awards of contracts and not only concentrate on the foreign ones.

In a meeting with Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), Mr. Jonathan Bloom and some officials of the Corporation in Atlanta – Georgia in the United States,

Mr. Mahama expressed grave concern over lack of local participation in the award of contract by the Millennium Challenge Authority (MCA).

He lamented that it was mostly the foreign companies that won bids to undertake constructions under the MC account.

Mr. Mahama, cited the M1 highway project at the Tetteh Quashie interchange to Mallam road which no aspect of it went to local contractors.

The Vice President also urged the Corporation to consider investing in the Savanna Accelerated Authority (SADA), which government was pursuing to alleviate extreme poverty in the three Northern regions and some parts of the Volta and Brong Ahafo regions.

Mr. Bloom admitted the shortfall and assured the Corporation would take a second look at the mode of awarding contracts, promising to consider local ones in the subsequent ones.

Mr. Bloom was however not happy about delays in their projects and appealed to government to increase action in utility facility and land revaluation.
